Reviving Dry Bones

Ezekiel 37:1–14
God asked the prophet, “Son of man, can these bones live?” (v. 3) Then He said, “Prophesy to these bones” (v. 4) and “Prophesy to the breath” (v. 9). “Our bones are dry, our hope is lost, and we are cut off.” (v. 11)
In God’s eyes, dry bones do not signal defeat—they hold the promise of life. Even the skeletons in our closet, the memories that bring us shame, can become the foundation for something new that God will build within us.
His promise is clear: He will revive us. Even when we have been lifeless for years, His Spirit can restore breath to our souls. The divine wind of God moves through the emptiest places, bringing strength where there was only weakness.
At times, we feel cut off—isolated from family and friends, surrounded by an unfamiliar world, watching meaning slip away, convinced tomorrow will only feel emptier than today. We feel abandoned, as if nothing could replace what we’ve lost. We doubt God’s presence because we see no proof, no sign of His love.
But God calls us to respond not to what we feel—but to what He is doing. We are to live by His Word, to walk by faith rather than sight.
And when we do, the miracle happens: We are made whole again. God breathes His life into us, and we breathe it in deeply. We are not in a pain-free utopia. We still face trouble. Yet we are alive—more alive than we have ever been.

Thoughtful Reflection
We inhale the life-giving breath of God and exhale faith, hope, and love. We rise, restored. We rise, renewed. We rise, alive.
