Created with Purpose: The Value of Being Made in God’s Image

Updated: Jun 22

In the beginning, God created. Then God said, and there was. And God saw that it was good. ~ Genesis 1:1-3

From the very beginning, God imagined, spoke, and shaped creation with intention and beauty. Each word He spoke brought order, life, and goodness into being. And at the height of His creation, God made humanity—male and female—in His image and likeness.

On the sixth day, God made man in His image, according to His likeness; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them . . . ~ Genesis 1:26-28

The Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being ~ Genesis 2:7

We are not random. We are not an accident. We are the result of divine intention and love. God imagined us before He created us. He formed us from the dust and gave us life by breathing His Spirit into us. That breath—the very life of God—is what makes us truly alive.

God’s blessing empowers us to thrive, to steward His creation, and to reflect His nature. We are like Him in our ability to think, create, relate, and love. Our conscience, personality, and purpose flow from the image of God within us. He gave us the ability to choose—to live freely and meaningfully within His plan.

The Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone. I will make him a helper comparable to him.” Out of the ground the Lord formed every beast of the field and bird of the air . . . but for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him. And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam and He took one of his ribs and made it into a woman.

God designed us for relationship—with Him and with each other. From the start, He emphasized connection, companionship, and community. We are created for purpose—to know God, love Him, and make a difference in the world around us through our gifts and calling.

A Thoughtful Reflection

Knowing that we are made in God’s image gives us a solid foundation for self-worth. Our value isn’t based on achievements, appearance, or possessions. It’s rooted in the unchanging truth that we bear the image of our Creator. God saw all that He had made—and He declared it very good. That includes you.

You are valuable. You are intentional. You are deeply loved.
